The Madison Lady Bulldogs saw their record improve to 10-4 on the season with a 64-43 victory over Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday at the Dakota State University Fieldhouse.
The Lady Dogs pushed to a 16-7 first-quarter lead.
"We were able to earn an early lead, although we had too many turnovers in the first half," said Mat Nelson, Madison's coach. "Our effort was great all night and again our defense really set the tone for us to be successful."
Veronica Renes scored 12 points and Hayley McCarron 10 for SFC. No other Lady Charger scored more than six points.
"We were able to pick them up full court, force some turnovers and keep them from establishing any offensive rhythm," said Nelson.
Madison's pressure defense forced 19 turnovers, 17 of which were steals.
"We had 17 steals tonight, which is a reflection of our intense ball pressure and ability to make plays in the passing lanes," said Nelson.
On offense, Mikayla McNary and Cassie Potter scored 14 points apiece for Madison. Christa Paul added 12 points, Bailey Milne had 11 and Shannon Spurgin eight.
"We had great balance tonight," said Nelson. "We played together well and really looked to distribute the ball to the open player."
Madison had 38 rebounds, including 10 offensive rebounds.
Potter had 12 rebounds for a double-double.
SFC (2-13) had 26 rebounds.
"Another key to the game was our rebounding, both on the offensive and defensive end. We really stress the importance of winning the battle of the boards, and we dominated the glass tonight on both ends," said Nelson.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Hartford on Friday (tonight) to take on West Central.
"Overall, we played pretty well tonight. We are pleased with the progress we are making," said Nelson. "Tomorrow we have another huge road game against West Central and we need to be sure that we come ready to play."
