Madison Wrestlers Prepare for State Meet

The State Class 'A' Wrestling Tournament kicks off on Friday, February 28th at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. Seven wrestlers from Madison have earned a qualifying spot in the two-day tournament and are preparing for the state meet.

After the Region 1A Tournament, the following Bulldogs finished in the top four, earning their state tournament spots.

• Noah Guse finished fourth at 120 pounds.
• Bailey Mennis earned fourth at 126 pounds.
• Tyler Guthmiller placed fourth at 145 pounds.
• Tyler Heeren finished third at 160 pounds.
• Corey Welbon earned third at 182 pounds.

In addition to these third and fourth place finishes, the Bulldogs had two Region champions.

• Senior Tyler Currey at 195 pounds
• Senior Blake Gusso at 285 pounds

As a team, Madison earned fifth place in the Region 1A Tournament with a score of 118.5. Sioux Falls Roosevelt won the Region with a score of 196, while Brookings took second and Watertown finished third.
