Two buzzer-beating shots helped the Madison girls basketball team win its third game in a row last night. The Bulldogs edged Flandreau Public 51-50 at the DSU Memorial Fieldhouse.
Flandreau took an early 11-10 first quarter lead, only to have Madison tie it up at 23 at the half. After the Bulldogs took a 32-30 lead into the fourth quarter, Flandreau rallied to take a 41-39 lead. Kaitlyn Higgins then hit a jumper as time expired to force overtime.
In overtime, both teams traded leads; with Flandreau taking a 50-48 lead with under 10 seconds left. Then with just under eight seconds to go, Brianna Postma hit a three-pointer at the top of the key to give the Bulldogs the win and improve to 5-4 on the season.
Madisons Mikayla McNary was named the Knology "Player of the Game", as she led all scorers with 14 points and added 7 rebounds. Bailey Milne had nine boards as the Bulldogs out-rebounded Flandreau 34-29.
For the 2-6 Fliers, Nicole Veldkamp scored 13 points, while Betsy Knippling added 11.
Madison returns to action on Tuesday, when it travels to the Flandreau Indian School as part of a double-header with the Madison boys.
