Bulldogs sweep Trojans

Madison picked up another doubleheader sweep last night at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Bulldog girls edged West Central 57-55, while the boys won over the Trojans 74-43.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead late in the first half to take a 30-20 halftime lead, but the defending State Champs rallied with a 23-point third quarter to take a 43-41 lead. An 8-0 fourth quarter run by the Bulldogs gave them the lead for good, as the team improved to 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in the Big 8 Conference.

Knology player of the game Christa Paul had a double-double to lead Madison, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Mikayla McNary added 10 points, as Madison won the rebound battle 30-26. West Centrals T-Yanna Devericks led all scorers with 30 points, putting her at over 15-hundred points for her career.

Madison's boys raced out to a 25-8 first quarter lead and cruised to its 9th win in as many games this season. 60-percent shooting from the field, led by Derrick Wiebe and Tony Fiegen, helped the Bulldogs. Both players had 19 points each while Fiegen added 10 rebounds. Player of the Game Ryan Steffenson nailed a pair of three pointers as he finished his night with 11 points, five of those in the first minutes of the fourth quarter.

Austin Sescher led West Central with 11 points and five rebounds in the loss, the first loss of the year for the 8th-ranked Trojans.

The Madison girls are back in action Monday when they host Lennox at the Middle School Gym. The Bulldog boys play defending State Champion Platte-Geddes Saturday night at the Hanson Classic in Mitchell.
