A Madison High School graduate has earned "Athlete of the Week" honors from the Summit League. North Dakota State Universitys Jeramy Geditz was selected by the NCAA Division I conference as its Mens Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the week.
The sophomore set a record in the High Jump during last Saturday's "Dakota Duals" meet in Fargo. Geditz cleared 7-feet, one and one-quarter inches, which made him an NCAA Divison-One provisional qualifier. Geditzs best jump previously was 6-feet, 8-inches, but credits some extra work in practice last week for pushing him over the seven-foot mark.
Geditz says while the height is a provisional mark, it doesnt guarantee that hell qualify for the National Meet, which take place next month at Texas A and M.
This is the first conference honor that Geditz has received. Knowing how competitive the Summit League is, he says its a pretty big thrill.
Geditz and the Bison are back in action this weekend, when they travel to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.
