Bulldogs lose to Orioles; End season 1-7

A failed two-point conversion attempt in the first quarter spelled defeat for Madison, as Lennox edged the Bulldogs 7-6 in soggy conditions at Lennox High School.

Madison scored first, as quarterback Lance Tolley ran 53-yards on a keeper to put the Dogs up 6-0. The two-point conversion run fell short as Gerard McCarthy was stopped short of the goal line. On the ensuing possession, Lennox’s Austin Eichacker tied the game on a 35-yard run. The extra point kick proved to be the game winner, as neither team scored the rest of the game.

Madison came close to pulling ahead in the fourth quarter, but a missed 35-yard field goal attempt and a lost fumble inside the 10-yard line put the kibosh on Madison’s scoring.

Tolley earned “Player of the Game” honors, rushing for 68 yards and a TD, while getting a key sack in the fourth quarter. McCarthy rushed for 61 yards, while Geoff Smith finished the night with 11 tackles.

Lennox finished the regular season with a record of 5-3 while Madison finished 1-7. The loss, combined with Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s 16-0 win over Chamberlain means the Bulldogs will not make the playoffs.
