A top-10 matchup in Volga turned out to be a low-scoring affair last night… Sixth-ranked Madison held on to win over fourth-ranked Sioux Valley 30-29.
Madison took an initial 7-6 first quarter lead over Sioux Valley, but a late three-pointer by Brady Will sparked a late second-quarter rally to give the Cossacks a 15-11 halftime lead over the Bulldogs.
Sioux Valley extended the lead to seven early in the second half but Madison rallied to close the gap to four points in the third. Then with 6:45 left in the game, Ryan Steffensen’s second three-pointer of the night gave Madison the lead for good, improving the team to 14-2 on the season.
Jarrett Janke was named Player of the Game as he led all scorers with 11 points. Tony Fiegen added 10 points for Madison as the Bulldogs managed just 32-percent shooting from the field. Brady Will led the Cossacks with 10 points while Matt Trooien scored 7.
Madison is back in action tonight as it hosts Canton at the DSU Fieldhouse. The girls will tip off at 6:00, followed by the boys at 7:45 on AM 1390.
