Madison goalie getting some looks

A Madison hockey player is getting some attention from several junior hockey programs. Dylan Winthers is in his second year as a goalie for the Brookings Rangers varsity hockey team.

So far this season, Winthers has a record of 8 wins and 3 losses at goal. Hes also been putting up some impressive stats as he ranks third in South Dakota High School Hockey in total saves this season. Hes also fifth in Goals Against Average, and fourth in Save Percentage.

As a result of his performance, Winthers has been invited to try out for several Junior Hockey leagues, including the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey league.

Dylan has been in contact with the Fargo Force of the U-S-H-L, which is a Tier One league and the Albert Lea Thunder and St. Louis Bandits of the N-A-H-L, which is a Tier Two league. He says the competition in the tryouts and camps that hes been to are unlike anything seen in Brookings.

Winthers says he has some stiff competition in these tryouts but is confident he can do well. He and the Ranges are back in action Saturday and Sunday as they host the Pierre Capitals at Larson Ice Arena in Brookings.
