Lady Bulldogs fall short to Dells

A hard-fought game in Dell Rapids came up just a bit short last night as the Madison girls lost to the top-ranked Lady Quarriers 52-48.
Dell Rapids had the early lead, taking a 16-14 first quarter lead. But the Bulldogs outscored the home team 17-12 in the second quarter to take a 31-28 halftime lead. From there, Dells held Madison to just four points in the to retake the lead and extend it by five. Madison rallied to pull within three, but a missed three-pointer with two seconds left sealed the win for 19-0 Dell Rapids.
Trish Ollerich led Dell Rapids with 14 points while Taylor Richter added 12 points. Shelby Bierman scored 10 and also pulled down 6 rebounds as the Lady Quarriers were out-rebounded by Madison 41-21.
For 11-9 Madison, Christa Paul had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, earning her Player of the Game honors. Kaitlyn Higgins added 11 points, while Bailey Milne and Mikayla McNary scored 8 and 7 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs face the Flandreau Indians in the first round of the District 5A tournament. That game will take place at the Madison Middle School Gym Tuesday night at 7:00.
