Bulldog mat-rats qualify for State

Six Madison wrestlers punched their tickets to State this last Saturday as the Bulldogs competed in the Region 1-A tournament in Milbank. The Bulldogs finished the day tied for fourth with the host team Milbank.

Watertown took the region title with 168 points while Dell Rapids/Baltic was second with 145.5 points. Madison and Milbank each scored 115 points on the day. Madison head coach Chris Waba says the day pretty much went as expected.

Three Bulldogs were crowned region champions as Matt Goth at 125-pounds, Andy Williams at 135-pounds and Jacob Aus at 152-pounds all won their weight classes. Tyler Converse finished fourth at 130 to qualify while Zach Ordal finished third in his weight class to punch his ticket. Waba says hes pleased with the quality of finishes for Madison this weekend.

All six wrestlers advance to the State "A" Wresting tournament, which starts Friday in Watertown.
