Two in a row for Lady Bulldogs!

For the second time in two years, the Madison Lady Bulldogs are District 5A Basketball champions. And just like last year, the win came at the hands of Flandreau Public, 59-52.

With the score tied early in the game at 8-8, Flandreau went on an 8-3 run to take a 16-11 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. But Madison rallied back in the second quarter, going on a 5-0 run to start the second quarter and outscore the Filers 18-12 in the quarter to take a 29-24 halftime lead.

Flandreau never threatened after that, as the Bulldogs shot over 51-percent from the field to improve to 13-9 on the season. Madison was led by Player of the Game Kaitlyn Higgins, who had 16 points and 7 assists. Mikayla McNary added 13 points while Brianna Postma scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

For the 9-13 Fliers, April Weber led all scorers with 18 points, while Brooke Relf added 12.

Madison advances to the Region 3-A championship game next Thursday when it faces District 6A champion Dell Rapids. The game will take place at the DSU Fieldhouse and can be heard on AM 1390.
