A Madison High School senior has been honored as the Gatorade South Dakota Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Tony Fiegen was selected for the honor, which was made by Gatorade and ESPN RISE.
The 6-8 forward/center averaged 17 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season as he helped Madison to a 24-2 record and the teams first State Championship since 1945. Fiegen also set Madison High School record for most points in a season during his junior year and was named to the First Team All-State team in 2008. In addition, he also has a 3.8 Grade Point Average and volunteers as a youth basketball coach and math tutor.
The South Dakota State University recruit is the first athlete from Madison High School to be selected for this honor. Recent basketball players that have received this honor include Louie Krogman of White River, and Dale Moss of Brandon Valley.
Fiegen is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, which will be announced in late March.
