Higgins named to All-Star team

Several boys and girls basketball seniors will get one last game on the hardwood this weekend as the Tea Area Boosters host the Southeast Area All-Star Basketball Games. The games take place Saturday at Tea Area High School.

Madisons Kaitlyn Higgins will play for the All-Star Blue team. The senior forward was key in the Lady Bulldogs wining their second straight district basketball title. Madison head coach Mat Nelson says Kaitlyns leadership was key in the Bulldogs success.

Higgins will also compete in the three-point contest as well. Several area girls will also take part in the game, including Trish Ollerich and Taylor Richter of Dell Rapids, Melissa Vlaustuin and Kassie Loe of Lennox, T-Yanna Devericks of West Central, and Cassie Sabers and Mel Heiberger of McCook Central. With four players from the Big Eight Conference represented this Saturday, Nelson says its a testament to the strength of the teams.

The girls will play at 2:00, followed by the boys at 4:00. Area boys playing in the All-Star Game include Brooks Knolley and Ben Miller of Sioux Valley, Jordan Snyder of West Central, Jeff Larsen of Howard, Dells St. Marys Eric Brown and Flandreaus Scott Sanderson.
