Post-Season Baseball Honors

Several post-season awards were handed out yesterday at the State Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell.
The state champion Renner Monarchs swept the Class A honors, as Luke Langenfeld won the Class A MVP title. Teammate Kyle Thompson won the Class A batting title, as he went 8-for-17 over four games for a .471 batting average.
Canova's Jared Donohue won the Class B MVP award, as he pitched two wins for the Gang in their state championship run. Miller-Wessington picked up a couple of awards, the Outlaws won the Sportsmanship Award while Nathan Hainy won the batting title. The pickup-player from Wessington Springs set a new State Tournament batting record, batting 13-for-17 for a .765 batting average.
Other honors handed out yesterday included long-time Mitchell Daily Republic sports editor Dean Minder, who was named South Dakota Amateur Baseball's Man of the Year, while Rusty Hiltunen of Canova earned a lifetime pass to the State Amateur Baseball Tournament for his contributions to Amateur Baseball.
