MHS Boys Tennis Compete at State Tournament

The Madison Boys' Tennis team competed in the State Tennis Tournament in Sioux Falls. With a wet forecast, the SDHSAA moved several matches to Thursday, May 19th.

The team was eliminated at the end of the day, but finished with 121 points for 16th place.

All three doubles teams won their first match. Michael Sullivan and Jacob Leighton, Madison's No. 1 doubles team, defeated Yankton 6-3, 7-5; but then fell to Watertown and S.F. Roosevelt.

The No. 2 doubles team, Ryan Golden and Jesse Brown, beat Vermillion 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(4). They were then defeated by Watertown and then Yankton in their final match.

Matt Green and Caleb Hawkes, Madison's No. 3 doubles team, beat Rapid City in their opening match 6-4, 7-5; but they lost to Rapid City Stevens and St. Thomas More.

In singles play, No. 1 Sullivan was victorious over Zach Walteich of Milbank, 6-4, 6-0 before losing to Tyler Osterloo of Watertown and then Tyler Joyal of Rapid City Stevens to be eliminated.

No. 2 Golden lost to Ethan Druin of Vermillion and Gavin Fenself of Rapid City Central.

In round 1, No. 3 Leighton was defeated by Billy Trevillyan of Brandon Valley, but then won over Wilson Long of Spearfish before being eliminated by Trent Meinke of Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

No. 4 Brown defeated Zach Murray of Sturgis before falling to Michael Schroder of Sioux Falls Washington and then Logan Meyer of Huron.

Green, Madison's No. 5 singles player, feel to Tanner Johnson of Pierre and then Vermillion's Chance Sorenson. No. 6 Hawkes was defeated by Connor Sieck of Rapid City Stevens and Drake VanEgdom or Brandon Valley.
