Madison Girls Win Class B State Softball Championship

The Madison Lady Bulldogs won the 2011 Class B State Softball Championship held at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls on Sunday, October 2nd.

The Bulldogs defeated Lennox 9-8 in the first round on Saturday and then advanced to the championship after beating Brookings 8-6 on Sunday morning.

The Bulldogs then faced the West Central Trojans, who had come back through the elimination bracket. The Trojans shut out the Bulldogs in their first game 7-0. In the second game, the Bulldogs trailed 7-6 when a rally in the final inning brought them to victory with a 2-RBI by Meranda Kerns.

The Bulldogs finished the year with a record of 6-8 and the first state championship since 2001.
