Bulldogs drop doubleheader in Sisseton

The Madison boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had a rough Saturday road trip. The girls lost to Sisseton 49-34, while the boys lost to the Redmen 64-59.

In the first game, the Madison girls held their own with eighth-ranked Sisseton, trailing at halftime. The Bulldogs took the lead 21-17 in the third quarter before Sisseton went on an 18-0 run to take the lead for good.

Sisseton forward Melissa Nigg led all scorers with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Carlie Lambert was named Madison’s “Player of the Game” with a 12-point, 6-rebound effort.

Sisseton’s boys rolled out to a 5-0 lead early in the nightcap game. The Bulldogs took a brief lead but the Redmen led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. Sisseton expanded the lead to 27-19 at the half and build up a 17-point lead before the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter. Madison took a brief lead again in the fourth quarter, but Sisseton nailed 10 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to hand the Bulldogs their second loss of the season.

Sisseton guard Trey Frederick led all scorers with 29 points, while Dustin Lotzer added 10. Tony Fiegen earned “Player of the Game” for Madison with a 25-point, 9-rebound performance, while Chad White added 19.

Madison returns home Tuesday night, as both boys’ and girls’ teams host Flandreau Indian School in a doubleheader. The girls tip-off at 6:30, followed by the boys at 8:00 at the Middle School Gym.
