Bulldogs split at home

Following a disappointing road trip to Sisseton, the Madison boys and girls basketball teams returned home last night for a doubleheader with the Flandreau Indians. The Lady Bulldogs won 73-37 while Flandreau Indian handed the Bulldog boys a rare home loss, 64-49.

Madison's girls started the game on a 15-0 run, putting the game out of reach early with a 19-2 first quarter score. The entire Madison bench was able to get significant playing time early, as head coach Mat Nelson credited the starters with setting the tone early.

Carlie Lambert led all scorers with 14 points for Madison. Player of the Game Caitlinn Sullivan hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 10 points. Maria Medicine Crow and Katrina Black Elk led Flandreau Indian with 8 points each.

Madison's boys built up an early 8-7 lead, only to have the Indians go on a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. F-I-S expanded the lead to 21 at the half, 36-15. Madison rallied to cut the lead to single-digits, but Player of the Game Tony St. John scored 10 fourth-quarter points to put the game out of reach.

Madison's Tony Fiegen led all scorers with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Chad White added 12. Ryan Wallette led the 7-1 Indians with 20 points, while St. John finished with 16 pointw, including a trio of highlight-reel dunks.

The girls host Parker on Friday, while the Madison boys travel to the Hanson Classic on Saturday. They will take on defending Minnesota Class A Champ Ellsworth at 3:30 from the Mitchell Corn Palace.
