It was a nail-biter of a game last night at the Madison Middle School gym as the Lady Bulldogs rallied from an early deficit to win 55-53 over Parker.
Madison had the early lead, but Parker took advantage of its size to pull away in the first half, leading 30-20 at halftime. The Pheasants extended the lead to 12 in the third quarter but an eight-point outburst by Alyssa Klapperich helped Madison cut into Parkers lead, 43-28.
The Bulldogs took a short-lived lead early in the fourth, only to have Parker take the lead. Madison rallied in the final frame, as Breanne Manthey hit an off-balance layup with minute left in the game to tie things up at 53-53. Madison was able to force a turnover on Parker with 12 seconds left in the game, setting up a game-winning shot by Yui Onadera to give Madison the win.
Onadera's last-second shot capped off her 11-point fourth quarter outburst. For the game Onadara had 16 points and 4 steals, earning her "Player of the Game" honors. Klapperich finished the night close behind with 15 points, while Manthey added 10.
Parker center Lacy Viet led all scorers with 17 points, while eighth-grader Annie LeLoux added 13. Madison improves to 3-6 on the season, while Parker falls to 0-10.
The Bulldogs' homestand continues tonight, as they host Murray County Central out of Slayton, Minnesota. The Freshman tip-off at 3:00, followed by the JV and Varsity.
