Bulldog boys shoot down Fliers

The Madison boys basketball team advanced to the District 5A championship game last night with a convincing 65-46 win over Flandreau Public at the Middle School Gym.
Madison held an early 4-2 lead over the Fliers, then went on a 12-2 run to finish the first quarter with a 16-4 lead. The Bulldogs essentially put the game out of reach with a 33-14 halftime lead as they improved to 15-6 on the season.
Madison had three players score in double figures as Tony Fiegen and Derrick Wiebe scored 10 points each. Senior forward Andrew Strom led all scorers with 17, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Strom said afterwards that he was in a rhythm during the fourth quarter.
Flandreau ends its season with a record of 5-15 as Nathan Johnson led the Fliers with 12 points.
The Bulldogs will face the Flandreau Indian School Friday night for the District 5A title. The Indians edged Howard in the other game on Tuesday, 70-67. Tip-off from Frost Arena in Brookings is at 6:30.
