Bulldogs' season comes to an end

The Madison Lady Bulldogs season came to an end last night, as they lost to Dells Public in the Region 3A finals, 60-31 at the DSU Fieldhouse.

The upset-minded Bulldogs played inspired defense in the first quarter, holding the top-ranked Lady Quarriers to an 8-6 lead. But the Dell Rapids offense came to life in the second quarter, outscoring Madison 19-2 in the second quarter and essentially putting the game out of Madisons reach.

Hot shooting helped the Lady Quarriers, as they shot 64-percent on the night, while Madison was just able to manage 29-percent. They were identical in total rebounds, as well as three-point shooting percentage.

Junior center Meghan Paul led the 22-1 Quarriers with 18 points and 11 rebounds to earn Stadium Sports "Player of the Game" honors. Whitney Lickteig added 11 points, while Taylor Richter had 10 points and six steals.

Madison was led in scoring by Alyssa Klapperich, who nailed three 3-pointers to finish with 14 points. Carlie Lambert added 7 points, while Breanne Manthey and Brianna Postma led with 5 rebounds apiece.

Dell Rapids advances to the State "A" tournament in Watertown next Thursday, where it will be the top seed in the tournament. Madison ends its season with a record of 7 wins and 15 losses.
