Bulldog, Indians, meet for District title

Madison and the Flandreau Indian School meet tonight in the District 5A boys' basketball championship game tonight at Frost Arena in Brookings. Both teams won their opening round games Tuesday night; the Bulldogs downed Flandreau 65-46, while the Indians edged Howard 70-67.

The Bulldogs bounced back from a tough loss to Milbank with a commanding 16-4 first quarter lead against the Fliers, never giving up the lead during the game. Head coach Mike Ricke says a big reason for the win boiled down to Madison's defense.

Flandreau got a rare win at the Madison Middle School gym last month, knocking off the Bulldogs 64-49. Ricke says the Bulldogs aren't necessarily out for revenge tonight, but they are out to prove themselves.

The Indians are looking to bounce back from a rough game against Howard, which featured three technical fouls against the team. Head coach Paul Anderson says that game served as a wake-up call for Flandreau and that they'll be ready for tonight.

Tip-off from Frost Arena is at 6:30; Matt Hendrickson will have the pre-game show, starting at 6:10 on "Dakota's Best", AM 1390.
