The Madison Chamber of Commerce named Dick Fawbush as the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, the organizations most prestigious honor, at the Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon on Thursday, March 6.
To be considered for the award, an individual must demonstrate leadership and a willingness to serve the Chamber. In addition to having proven service to the community of Madison, nominees must also be in good standing with the Chamber and have either attended or assisted with at least two Chamber events.
Fawbush has served the community in numerous capacities. He is a former board member of the South Dakota Retailers Association and Madison Country Club and former member of the Madison Jaycees. In 1996, he was nominated for Retailer of the Year by the SDRA; in 1997, he was awarded the Certificate of Distinguished Service by the SDRA.
Upon graduation from Dakota State College, Fawbush was employed at Stans Mens Shop. A few years later, he purchased the business with partner Leland White. In 1990, Fawbush became the sole owner of the clothing store. The addition of womens clothing brought a name change, Stans Mens & Womens Apparel, in 2002.
