Trojans back in action

The Sunshine Invitational is an ironic name for a track meet postponed due to inclement weather. Dakota State competed at the meet in Wayne, Nebraska Monday and although the conditions were far from ideal- the Trojans produced a handful of notable performances.
Senior Laura Tewes won the high jump for the second consecutive meet. Her jump clearing 5-9 and a quarter set a school record and qualified her for nationals.
Head womens coach Trent Mack says Tewes adjusts to varying weather conditions as well as anyone and thats been a key to her success in the early going. He adds that the challenge now will be to continue to improve.
The womens 4-by-4 relay team also competed well- finishing 2nd and sophomores Clarice Bauer and Suzanne Swett had top 5 finishes in the 5000. For the mens team- Chris Heezen took gold in the 5000 and Anthony Drealan took the top spot in the 1500.
Mack says overall- he is impressed with the way the squad has developed despite adverse conditions.
Next for DSU- they head to the Sioux City Relays this Friday and Saturday- then host the DSU Invitational April 25th.
