Bulldogs earn All-State honors

Madisons "Dynamic Duo" was honored this week as the South Dakota Sportswriters named them to the All-State Boys basketball team. Junior forward Tony Fiegen was named to the first team, while junior guard Chad White was named to the third team.

A starter in every game, Fiegen was the Bulldogs scoring and rebounding leader, averaging over 18 points and 10 rebounds a game. Madison head coach Mike Ricke says Tony made a lot of strides this year over last season.

It was a rough start to the season for White. A torn ACL and rehab kept Chad out for the first four games of the season. Despite that obstacle, White averaged 13-and-a-half points and almost six rebounds a game. He also broke the single-season assists record, which was set last year by Brady Wiebe. Ricke says White was a huge key in the Bulldogs reaching the state tournament finals for the first time since 1945, despite not being at 100-percent physically.

Of the 15 players selected for this years All-State first, second, and third teams, the Bulldogs played against ten of them this season. Ricke says that tells a lot about Madison's schedule this year.

Other area players named to the All-State team include Lennox's Jared Vlaustuin to the first team, Parkston's David Maxwell and Sioux Valley's Ben Miller to the second team, and Milbank's Jeff Fish to the third team.
