Bulldogs Blast Hamlin

The Madison Bulldogs scored early and often last night, blasting Hamlin in the first round of the High School Baseball Playoffs, 18-0 at Flynn Field.
MHS set the tone early with a four run first inning and essentially put the game out of reach with 13 total runs in the second and third innings. Madison collected 14 hits in the win, led by three-hit nights by seniors Geoff Smith and Nick Bird.
Bird says the Bulldogs went into last night's game with a sense of urgency after dropping a close 2-1 decision to end the regular season.
Ryan Steffenson and Jeremy Jensen each went 2-4 with a double while Justin Pederson added a double and Jarret Janke a triple. Bird and Steffenson combined for 10 strikeouts and held Hamlin to just one hit in the five inning-game. Bird took the win on the mound, pitching the first four innings. He says he's come a long way on the mound since the start of the season.
Jacob Maras took the loss for Hamlin while collecting the only hit.
Madison now faces Howard in the second round of the playoffs. First pitch is tonight at 7:00 at Flynn Field.
