After the first day of the State “A” Girl’s Golf Tournament in Spearfish, a Madison Bulldog is a few strokes off the lead.
Junior Brianna Postma finished her first round yesterday with a score of 85. That put her in a tie for second place with seventh-grader Kristin Sabers of Dell Rapids Public, and two shots off the lead held by Dani Bellet of Lead-Deadwood.
Madison head coach Bud Postma says a strong front nine set the tone for Brianna’s day.
Teammate Casey Bird finished out the day with a 111, putting her in a tie with Elizabeth Kerns of Dell Rapids. Postma says Brianna will have to contend with the pressure of being one of the front-runners in order to walk away with a championship.
Defending State Champion Lead-Deadwood has the lead at the end of the first day with a 370, followed by Milbank at 390. Dell Rapids and Belle Fourche are tied for third with a 400.
