Broncos get first loss of the season

A big third inning kept the Dell Rapids Mudcats unbeaten in the Corn Belt League as they blew out the Madison Broncos 19-9 at Flynn Field in Madison.

The Broncos took an early 4-2 lead after two innings, but the defending league champions put the game out of reach with a 10-run explosion in the third inning. The win puts the Mudcats at a perfect 5-0 on the season while the Broncos fall to 4-1 in league standings.

Pete Wilson led the Mudcat attack with a 4-hit afternoon, including a home run. Jesse Kurtenbach had 5-RBI as he hit a home run and a single, while winning pitcher Nate Henry added a home-run as part of his three-hit day.

Brian Miller led the Broncos with four hits, including a single. Justin Jaspers also had a double as part of a 3-hit game. Chris Brozik took the loss, with Brian Mette and Mitch McNary pitching in relief.
