Young track athletes from across the state will converge on Aberdeen for the USA Track and Field Dakotas Junior Olympics Championships. The event will take place at Swisher Field on Saturday, June 14th.
The Aberdeen Area Running Club is hosting the event. Club President Gayaln Lang says this is an event thats been a few months in the planning.
Athletes from both North and South Dakota will be competing in this track meet, ranging in ages from 10 and younger all the way up to high school-age athletes. One of the big reasons Aberdeen is hosting this years event is because of its central location to several major North and South Dakota cities.
The top-six finishers in each individual event and the top 4 relay teams will qualify for the Regional Championships July 10-13 in Madison, Wisconsin. From there, the top three finishers advance to the National Championships July 22-27 in Omaha, Nebraska. Lang says there is already a lot of interest in the meet.
