Bulldogs Vie for State Golf Title

The Madison boys golf team is in Milbank today and tomorrow for the State A Golf tournament. 106 boys representing 32 schools will be competing for the top spot in the 2-day, 72-hole tournament.
The Bulldogs just missed qualifying the team, placing fourth in regional qualifying last week with a team score of 361. Four individual golfers are representing Madison, as senior Brad Stearns and juniors Tony Fiegen, Justin Olson, and Sean Campbell all qualified.
The top-qualifying score for any region came from Vermillion who fired a 324. Madison has gone head-to-head with the Tanagers this season, most recently at the Big 8 Conference Tournament in Hartford. Bulldog head coach Brian Guischer says the Tanagers are the odds-on favorite.
Sioux Falls Christians Rainey Renyolds has the low qualifying score coming into todays first round, firing a 73 in the region meet. Guischer feels the Chargers, who were last years Class B Champions could challenge Vermillion for the title.
Guischer also feels that the Bulldogs, Milbank, Aberdeen Roncalli and Harrisburg could all be in the hunt for a top-5 finish. Tee-off from the Pine Hills Golf Course is at 10:00 this morning, with Tuesdays second round scheduled to begin at 9:00.
