Vermillion 1st, Madison 8th after Day One of State Golf.

Vermillion has the lead after the first day of the State A boys golf tournament in Milbank. The heavily-favored Tanagers have three of the top six spots, en route to a team score of 312.

Second-place Aberdeen Roncalli is 23 shots back with a 335, followed by Harrisburg at 340. Sioux Falls Christian and West Central also round out the top five.

Individually, Alex Schaack of Vermillion is the leader after 36 holes, firing a 76. Teammate Jordan Boots is second with a 77, while Roncallis Ben Hiller is two shots off the lead with a 78.

Madison finished the day with a team total of 364, good enough for eighth place. Individually for the Bulldogs, junior Tony Fiegen is tied for 8th place with an 82. Sean Campbell is tied for 45th with a 91, while Brad Stearns is two shots back with a 93. Justin Olson rounds out the Bulldog scoring with a 98, which ties him for 74th.

The tournament wraps up today (Tuesday) at 9:00 at Pine Hills Golf Club.
