The annual Heart of the Lakes Senior Games takes place this weekend in Madison. The competition is open to men and women who are at least 50 years old.
Bernie Schuurmans is the organizer for this years games. He says there will be something for everyone, regardless of fitness level.
The events take place Friday and Saturday at various locations around Madison, including the Community Center and Trojan Field. This is one of 13 events that athletes can take part in this summer, with the State Senior Games taking place September 4-7 in Mitchell. The games are not limited to just area athletes or South Dakotans, but to anyone regardless of state. Schuurmans has been impressed with the number of states represented at the games.
Registration is one dollar per event, with a maximum cost of 5-dollars. Anything over five events is free. For more information or to register, stop by the Community Center or call Schuurmans at 256-4644.
