Sioux Empire All-Stars pound Corn Belt

The third annual Rage in the Cage wrapped up yesterday at Sioux Falls Stadium as representatives from the Corn Belt League and the Sioux Empire League met in the first ever Corn Belt All-Star vs. Sioux Empire All-Star game. And it was the Sioux Empire League dominating the game 23-6.

The Corn Belt League took the early lead on an RBI single by Madisons Brian Miller. But the Sioux Empire squad answered with 14 unanswered runs to put itself firmly in the drivers seat. In fact, the Sioux Empire All-Stars racked 23 hits in the 6-inning victory. Renner Roadrunners Matt Zimmer managed the Sioux Empire All-Stars and says the game was a testament to the leagues offensive ability.

Nick Bruening of the Sioux Empire League was named the Stadium Sports Player of the Game. The All-Star from Brandon Valley did a lot of damage with a 3-for-3 day, including a home run, a double and 5 RBI. Zimmer says he prefers coaching Bruening, rather than coaching against him.

The Corn Belt League managed just nine hits in the rout, led by RBIs from Miller, Madison teammate Trent Miller, and Colmans Aaron Entringer. Manager Brent Reilly from Humboldt says the team had to face several challenges in the game.

Both managers agree that the All-Star game should return to the Rage in the Cage next year.
