Bullogs 12th after Day One of State Tennis

Day one of the State Tennis Tournament wrapped up yesterday in Sioux Falls, as several Bulldogs won opening-round matches.
In First Flight singles, Molly Johnson picked up a first-round win over Liz Day in Vermillion 6-1 and 6-2 before losing to fourth-seeded Kristi Meyers of Sioux Falls Roosevelt 6-1 and 6-3. Johnson will now face either Mariah Emery of Todd County or Aisling Gould of St. Thomas More.
Laura Niedert drew a bye in Flight 2 singles and was scheduled to play Olivia Hollan of Aberdeen Central in the second round. No result was posted.
Caroyln Hunter won her first match in Flight 3 singles over Halle Halbkat of Huron, 2 sets to 1. However, fifth-seed Shealyn Bakke downed Hunter in straight sets in the second round, sending her to Milbank’s Caroline Hicks.
In Flight 4 singles, Katie Beck lost 2 sets to one against Vermillion’s Dru Daniels in the first round. She’ll take on Aberdeen Central’s Libby Wiswall. Flight 5 singles had Caitlynn Sullivan get a quick win over Jill Draine of Spearfish, only to lose in the second round to Chandler Nielsen of Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Sullivan will take on Sam Tritsch of Sturgis today. Flight 6 singles had Allison Niedert losing to Pierre’s Molly Burke in the second round; she’ll face Kasey Munson of Brookings in consolation action.
After Day One, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Sioux Falls Roosevelt are tied for the lead with 332 points. Madison is tied with Aberdeen Roncalli and Huron for 12th with 132 points
