Dakota State University has been hard at work in the search for a new womens basketball coach after Jeff Dittman resigned last month After 15 years at the helm of the Lady Ts. Dittman took the head coaching job at Hastings College in Nebraska.
After a long preliminary process the search has been narrowed down to two finalists that will interview in Madison on Thursday. DSU Athletic Director Gene Wockenfuss said that while the timing of Dittmans resignation didnt allow for too many applicants, the two finalists are more than qualified for the position.
If all goes according to plan Wockenfuss hopes to have a final decision made by the weekend.
Wockenfuss also said that while the university is trying to pick the right person for the job, it is just as important for the candidate to be impressed with the university as well. That makes for a long day during the interview process.
Wockenfuss also said that the current players have been kept in the loop as the process has gone on and will have a say in the hire. He also said that while sometimes transitions like this can cause recruits to change their minds about attending a school, he has not heard anything from any of next years recruits about playing elsewhere.
