Madison Day 1 Results, State Tennis Tournament

Five of Madison’s six tennis players move into Friday’s action at the State Tennis Tournament. The tournament got underway yesterday and concludes Saturday in Rapid City.
Molly Johnson is still alive in the Championship round in Flight One Singles after downing Megan Ludwig of Milbank yesterday 6-2, 6-2. Johnson will take on top-seeded Thersa Petrasko of Sioux Falls O’Gorman today.
Laura Niedert dropped her first round match in Flight 2 singles to Hannah Parrett of Spearfish 7-5, 7-5; but bounced back to eliminate Lauren Takahashi of Sturgis 10-0. She’ll face Angela Yahne of Mitchell in the 3rd round consolation today.
Allison Niedert won her first round match in Flight 3 singles to Vermillion’s Lindsey Robinet 6-3, 5-7, 10-2, but lost her next match to O’Gorman’s Hanna Vandemark 6-0, 6-2. Niedert will take on Stacy Davison of Sturgis in the consolation third round today.
Hannah Lynch won her first match in Flight 4 singles, winning over Samantha Tritsch of Sturgis 6-2, 6-4. But Cassie Malik of Rapid City Stevens downed Lynch in the next match 6-2, 6-2. Lynch will face Kortny Sterrett of Huron in the consolation third round this morning.
SaReena Freet was also a first-round winner today, winning over Christine Bergman of Spearfish in Flight 5 singles 6-4, 7-6; before losing to Libby Wiswall of Aberdeen Central 6-0, 6-0. But Freet bounced back in the consolation round, eliminating Brittany Olson of Huron 10-9, setting up a third-round match with Kara Bunkers of Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
Tia Limmer was not so fortunate in Flight 6 singles, losing to Rapid City Central’s Kate Evans 6-0 and 6-3. Milbank’s Tanya Baldwin ended Limmer’s singles run with a 10-4 victory.
