Bulldogs maul Tigers in Volleybal Districts

Madison overcame an early deficit last night to advance to the championship match of the District 5 Volleyball tournament. The Bulldogs defeated Howard three games to one at the Flandreau Elementary gym.

The Tigers roared out of the gates early, taking the first game 25-19. Madison trailed in the second game by five, but rallied to take the win with a 25-19 score. Head coach Wendy Nelson says the rally in Game 2 helped Madison regain its momentum for the rest of the match.

Madison took the third game 25-8 then battled for a hard-fought 25-21 win in Game 4 to move into Thursdays championship match. Nelson says a big factor the match win was the play of junior middle hitter Samantha Thompson.

Serving helped Madison tonight, as Kaitlyn Higgins and Emily Terwilliger were perfect from the line. Amanda Dailing had a big night, going 22 of 23 serving, while Lindsay Rook was 12 of 13.

The Bulldogs will return home for the District Championship Thursday, where they will face Flandreau Public. The Fliers downed the Flandreau Indian School in straight sets last night to advance. The match will air Thursday on "Dakotas Best" AM 1390, starting with the pre-game at 6:40 and the first serve at 7:00.
