Hamlin held off a late Madison Thursday night to improve to 2-0. The Chargers nipped the Bulldogs 46-45 at the Madison Middle School Gym.
Madison held an early 4-2 lead, only to have the Chargers go on a 6-0 run to take a 13-6 first quarter lead. The Bulldogs rallied to cut the halftime lead to three, thanks to a 10-point outburst by freshman reserve Bailey Milne. It was a back-and-forth second half, but the Chargers connected on 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Milne led Madison with 13 points. Sophomore center Christa Paul had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Brianna Postma added 7 points and 5 rebounds. Madison committed 26 turnovers but did well on the rebound battle, out-rebounding Hamlin 30-26. Hamlin’s Larae Zimprich led all scorers with 19 points and led the Chargers with 8 rebounds. Natasha Fritz added 9 points, while Cassie Jacobsen scored 8.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, as they face fourth-ranked Sioux Valley at the Entringer Classic in Flandreau. Game time is at 4:30 at the Flandreau Elementary Gym and can be heard on “Dakota’s Best” KJAM.
