Lady Bulldogs rally, down Vermillion

Madison overcame a sluggish start to win in girls basketball last night; a 68-51 win over Vermillion at the Madison Middle School Gym.

It was a slow start for the Bulldogs as Vermillion went on a 10-2 run and held a double-digit lead. But Madison was able to bounce back to cut the lead at the end of the first 20-14. Madison head coach Mat Nelson says the girls did a good job of adjusting to Vermillions pressure in the first.

Madison held the Tanagers to just six points in the second quarter, taking the lead for good at the half, 30-26. Madison would continue to build up its lead, outscoring Vermillion 38-25 in the second half to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Coach Nelson says a big factor in the win was rebounds, as Madison out-rebounded Vermillion 42-22.

Four Bulldogs finished the night in double-figures. Christa Paul had another double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 17 rebounds. Senior guard Kaitlyn Higgins led all scorers as she posted 16 second-half points to finish with 17. Higgins says last nights win helped Madison get some momentum going into the holiday break.

Brianna Postma also scored 12 points for Madison while Mikayla McNary added 10. Sophie Nelich-Arobba led Vermillion with 11 points while Sierra Allen added 10.

Madison next plays January 3rd, when it hosts defending state champion West Central at the Middle School Gym.
