Bicycle Safety Day

East River Electric Power Cooperative employees will host their annual Bicycle Safety Day on Saturday, May 12, 2012.

Children from Preschool through 5th grade are invited to the free event which will be held at St. Thomas School in Madison. Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. and the program will start at 10 a.m.

One of the planned activities include a bicycle safety course where kids can practice proper turns and appropriate speeds while learning the rules of riding bicycles on the road.

A bicycle safety video will be shown and the Madison Police Department will offer safe riding strategies as well as bike registration, which assists officers with recovery in case of loss or theft. East River employees will also perform bike inspections and make minor adjustments.

Drawings will be held for door prizes, including four new bikes to be given away and refreshments will be served. Parents are also encouraged to stay for the event.

Realizing the importance of wearing a helmet when bike riding, efforts to provide free helmets to as many kids as possible this year.
