Lift Every Voice and Sing

DSU Trojan Center Underground

The Dakota State University Office of Diversity Services will host a presentation by the South Dakota Humanities Council (SDHC) Chautauqua series, “Lift Every Voice and Sing!” on the DSU campus, Friday, Feb. 21 at noon in the Trojan Center Underground. The event is free and appropriate for all ages.

The event features the storytelling of Joyce Jefferson and Jerry Wilske. Both have researched African American religious music from the time it was brought to the Americas to the present. The presentation centers on the song that brothers James Weldon and J. Rosamond Johnson wrote in 1900, “Lift Every Voice and Sing!”
